May 2012 Favorites and Regrets

There goes another month of blogging and I can't believe I seriously made it. At first, I thought I'll do a few posts and see how this goes, but I'm really loving it and hope to continue doing more.

Thanks to the few followers I have for hanging on there loyally, you guys make my day, and I hope I don't disappoint you. I do not have any new favorites in other categories like food, toiletries, tv/movies, etc. If I did have any, they were repeats from the previous month so I did not include them again here. The products I have reviewed are all linked, and for those I didn't, I've written a short review of why I did or didn't like them.

Beauty and makeup favorites this month:

Avon Imari Seduction Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant
Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter 001 Pink Truffle
Nivea A Kiss of Moisture lip balm: A very basic and boring lip balm but it works. Does anyone really not like the Nivea lip balms?
Wet n Wild MegaLast Lip Color 906D Wine Room
NYC Matte Me Crazy Mattifying Top Coat
Wet n Wild MegaLast Nail Color 218A I Need A Refresh-Mint
Aussie Cleanse & Mend Shampoo

Beauty and makeup regrets I wasn't impressed with or totally hated this month:

Brash for Payless Fruity Lip Syrup Wild Grape: This lip gloss is too watery, doesn't even last an hour, and even less if you are eating. It almost has no tint and no shine. It smells good but that doesn't last either. Overall it's useless and feels like toy makeup. Serves my right for buying lipgloss from Payless of all places.

Coastal Scents 26 Shadow Blush Palette: I really want to love this palette for the colors but the eyeshadows are a little chalky and it's very hard to get the pigment or to blend. I tried too hard and it ended up irritating my eyelids. I can make the blushes work somehow but really the pigmentation is not the best and also doesn't last long.

Aveeno Active Naturals Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion Face SPF 30: I don't know why they say it's for the face but it felt thick and heavy on my face so I ended up using it on my hands and legs. It was OK as a body sunscreen but I was really looking for something good for the face and this was not it.

Covergirl Queen Collection Eyelash curler: This was too big for my eyes and I kept pressing on my eyelids along with lashes. It was painful and annoying to use it. But most eyelash curlers are like this and I think I'm not going to buy them anymore. I feel like they're one useless tool that really doesn't do much, at least not for me.

NYX Soft matte lip creams: I bought a couple of these and don't understand why the hell are these so hyped. First of all, they have a weird smell, and they are very drying. Once completely dry they emphasize the dryness even more. They tint lips and are a little hard to remove. Also, most colors they have don't suit my skin tone.

ELF Essential Lipstick Seductive: ELF has good lip glosses but these lipsticks are just not good. They are streaky and ball up on the lips which I find is very weird. I never knew lipstick worked like that. It also had a plastic-like smell.

Hair and care silk n shine hair gel: I got this from India since a cousin suggested it but whenever I used it my scalp felt itchy. And I did not apply it to my scalp, I just used it to tame the frizz down on my hair. It however did make my hair tangle free and smooth to comb. But I want something that I can apply carefree even to the hair on my scalp not just my length, and ends.

CVS Cleansing and Makeup Remover Towelettes: These are so dry and they irritated my skin. They didn't even do a good job of removing makeup.

Phew! I'm tired. I hope you liked this post. Let me know about your faves and fails in the comments below.

Top 12 Things to Buy from Kruidvat own Brand

We've been seeing inflation here in the Netherlands since October last year. It's just plain ridiculous to see something that I paid 5 euros for a few months back is now around 7 euros or maybe more. That doesn't sound like a lot but when you buy about 50 things (food, groceries, toiletries, etc.) for your house, it all adds up and overall you are paying 50 to 100 euros more than what you were paying previously. But unfortunately, not a lot of us have seen this increase in our pay and many people have even lost jobs during and after the covid crisis. So it's only natural for us to want to save our money wherever we can. But that said we also do not want to compromise on quality. And that is where the idea for this post comes from. Kruidvat is a drugstore that is similar to CVS/Walgreens in the US. Products sold here are mostly hygiene products, cleaning supplies, makeup, and over-the-counter medicines. I have been shopping here for hygiene products for years. By now I

April 2012 Favorites and Regrets

I can't believe April has already come to an end. I can't say I'm sorry either because this means less rain, more blossoms, and summer in another month. So without further ado, I present to you this month's beauty and makeup favorites. For those I've reviewed I have linked them to the blog post. For the rest of them, I left short reviews of why I did or didn't like them. As you can see there are quite a few things I've been liking this month. The list of all things beauty I've been loving/using frequently are: (in left to right order) Aussie Instant Freeze Hair Spray Extreme Hold: This product is just wow. The windy city can be brutal to hair and this product is really a blessing. It's easy to use and smells great. It's not too expensive and comes in a huge bottle. Clairol Herbal Essences Hydralicious Reconditioning Conditioner Jergens Shea Butter Deep Conditioning Moisturizer: I first got introduced to this lotion when I was in India and

5 Things that Did Not Work for Me to Lose Weight with Hypothyroid/PCOS

I have been suffering and dealing with Hypothyroid/PCOS for about a decade now. Weight gain is one of the main problems of people struggling with these two chronic illnesses. I have tried a lot of things to reduce weight and over the years I have been through many trials and tribulations and made many mistakes in the process of trying to lose weight.  The following tips come from my experience and these are mistakes you might want to avoid if weight loss is your goal with Hypothyroid/PCOS. Counting calories : Like many others, I bought into the belief that by counting calories and limiting my calorie intake I would be able to lose weight. But this is a very bad way to start because it gives you the idea that you can eat anything and everything as long as you are limiting your calorie intake. And since most foods like junk, and ready-made foods that you buy at the supermarket come with a lot of calories, I used to overall eat very less, not get enough nutrition, starve myself, and then
