April 2012 Favorites and Regrets

I can't believe April has already come to an end. I can't say I'm sorry either because this means less rain, more blossoms, and summer in another month.

So without further ado, I present to you this month's beauty and makeup favorites. For those I've reviewed I have linked them to the blog post. For the rest of them, I left short reviews of why I did or didn't like them.

As you can see there are quite a few things I've been liking this month. The list of all things beauty I've been loving/using frequently are: (in left to right order)

Aussie Instant Freeze Hair Spray Extreme Hold: This product is just wow. The windy city can be brutal to hair and this product is really a blessing. It's easy to use and smells great. It's not too expensive and comes in a huge bottle.

Clairol Herbal Essences Hydralicious Reconditioning Conditioner

Jergens Shea Butter Deep Conditioning Moisturizer: I first got introduced to this lotion when I was in India and a friend from the US got it for me. Ever since I moved to the US I have been buying this again and again. It just does what it's supposed to do and it smells great.

Parachute Therapy Hair Vitaliser: This hair oil was a surprise. I did not expect it to work so well. It conditions my hair, it's a great pre-poo, and it has reduced my dandruff/hair fall.

Got2b Smooth Operator Smoothing Luster Lotion

Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture Combination Skin

Lady Speed Stick Fresh Infusions Wild Freesia Antiperspirant/Deodorant

Source Soothing Hand Soap in Lavender and Chamomile: This hand soap is very gentle and smells great. Costs very less and lasts a long time.

Dove Moisturizing Soap White: A classic and one I have been using for years. Does anyone not like this soap?

Boro Plus Healthy Skin Antiseptic Cream: Great cream for spot dryness, and cuts. I love it for my chapped/cracked lips, and for my dry elbows.

Wet n Wild Mega Slicks lipgloss 576A Rose Gold: Very moisturizing and glossy. The color just suits my skin tone well. It costs very less and lasts a long time. I love the scent too.

CoverGirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner Black: Absolute love! It's so creamy and smooth and just glides on. It doesn't transfer and lasts long. It's quite an intense black color too which I really like.

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder Sand Medium: I have repurchased this powder so many times. It wears pretty well. I don't like foundation because I can either never find a shade match or the formula is too drying so this powder is my alternative. It gives natural-looking coverage. It smooths everything out and overall gives a blurring effect. It's very comfortable on my skin too.

NARS Orgasm Blush: There's a reason why it's sold one every minute or so. Yes, it was probably because of JLo but also because it truly is a great blush, with good formulation, and it suits a wide range of skin tones. It's very easy to use, has good pigmentation, and even if you overdo it, it still looks great. This is one blush that you can never go wrong with and it will never make you look like you have too much blush on your face. It somehow always manages to look quite natural. And the packaging just feels like a luxury.

ELF Studio Eyebrow Kit Dark: My first eyebrow product and I did not expect it to work this well. It makes my brows look naturally full, well groomed, and it costs very less. I repurchased this already.

Other favorites:
TV Shows: Smash, Revenge, Grays Anatomy, New Girl, Glee
Movies: The Hunger Games

And about the Regrets, I'm hating/not impressed with the following:

Covergirl Lip Perfection Lip Colors: I bought a couple of these and both colors are very bright and look like makeup worn by drag queens. Nothing wrong with that but these are not for daily use. Also, they have shimmer in them which is over the top. Other color options they had looked like that as well, shimmery, and bright, at least to me. None of the colors looked like they would suit my skin tone. They have a powdery kind of fragrance that lasts for quite some time and the lipstick formula doesn't feel comfortable on the lips. I can feel it all day like there's something on my lips. Overall, I don't understand the hype.

CoverGirl Lash Blast Length Mascara Dark Brown: This mascara does almost nothing to my lashes. It lengthens a little bit and there's some separation but overall I don't see it doing much to my lashes.

Wet n Wild MegaLast Salon Nail Color 201C Wet Cement: The color is good but this polish formula is quite different from the mint-colored one. It doesn't look as shiny and makes my hands look dull. The polish also chips off faster.

Other Regrets:
TV Shows: Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl
Movies: Avengers

So what are you loving or hating for this month? Please do comment and let me know.

  2. Hey Dr. Rashmi! Thanks so much for following my blog :) I can't tell you how happy it makes me. And I live in US so all these brands are drugstore brands easily found everywhere in the US. And yeah, I hated Avengers, maybe because I expected too much from it and didn't feel like it was worth the wait.

Top 12 Things to Buy from Kruidvat own Brand

We've been seeing inflation here in the Netherlands since October last year. It's just plain ridiculous to see something that I paid 5 euros for a few months back is now around 7 euros or maybe more. That doesn't sound like a lot but when you buy about 50 things (food, groceries, toiletries, etc.) for your house, it all adds up and overall you are paying 50 to 100 euros more than what you were paying previously. But unfortunately, not a lot of us have seen this increase in our pay and many people have even lost jobs during and after the covid crisis. So it's only natural for us to want to save our money wherever we can. But that said we also do not want to compromise on quality. And that is where the idea for this post comes from. Kruidvat is a drugstore that is similar to CVS/Walgreens in the US. Products sold here are mostly hygiene products, cleaning supplies, makeup, and over-the-counter medicines. I have been shopping here for hygiene products for years. By now I

5 Things that Did Not Work for Me to Lose Weight with Hypothyroid/PCOS

I have been suffering and dealing with Hypothyroid/PCOS for about a decade now. Weight gain is one of the main problems of people struggling with these two chronic illnesses. I have tried a lot of things to reduce weight and over the years I have been through many trials and tribulations and made many mistakes in the process of trying to lose weight.  The following tips come from my experience and these are mistakes you might want to avoid if weight loss is your goal with Hypothyroid/PCOS. Counting calories : Like many others, I bought into the belief that by counting calories and limiting my calorie intake I would be able to lose weight. But this is a very bad way to start because it gives you the idea that you can eat anything and everything as long as you are limiting your calorie intake. And since most foods like junk, and ready-made foods that you buy at the supermarket come with a lot of calories, I used to overall eat very less, not get enough nutrition, starve myself, and then
